      Ravensworth Castle  May 17th 1737

Sr,

	We reced yours with the Boards Minutes of the 13th Inst wch we duely Observe

	In answer to that part relating to Mr Hall the last Tennt of Greenhead <at> Tarretburne Colliery he was in possession thereof Severall years before we had the honour to be Concerned in the Derwentwater Estate, & was putt out of possession by Jas Dodds and others who Claimed a Right there to as being Freeholders in the Mannor of Wark  Of this we acquainted the Board & after having their orders we Served Ejectments upon them & they Stood out Sometime;  But at the time the Court was held at Wark the Sd James Dodds offering to become the Hospitalls Tennt at £10 per Ann the Board was acquainted with it he was Recommended (as he realy was) to be the best & most Substantiall Bidder and was Confirmed accordingly This Sr is the State of the Case from the beginning to the End and we wd further only Observe that Mr Regnd Hall never was a bidder for this Colliery or offered one farthing for it.

	We take the Liberty Sir to Trouble you with a Letter for the Treasurer of the Hospitall which you have Inclosed in wch is a Bill for One Thousd Pounds on Accot of the Rents of the Derwentwater Estate.  Please to order it to be delivered Safe
