Letter – Nicholas Walton to William Corbett – 4 Jul 1740

      Ravensworth Castle July 4th .1740

To William Corbett Esqr.



Sir

	Herewith I send you your Cash Accot. for last Month, by which you will be pleased to Observe there is a Balance of £689.9.9 ¼  in favour of the Hospitall, we have since remitted Mr Wood a Bill for £600.   I have likewise Inclosed you our Quarterly Contingent Accot. Ending the 30 June last, which be pleased also to Lay before the Board.

	Collonel Liddell has given Directions for Building a Lead Mill at Keswick and his Agents have apply’d to us for a Liberty to Cutt down a Tree or two for a Wheel Axeltree, which they are afraid they cannot be Supply’d with, in any place in that Neighbourhood, but in the Derwentwater Woods. I have been this day allso applyed to by one of the Ptners, who desires me to acquaint you that they are willing to pay the full Value of the Wood, and that Collonel Liddell will take it very kindly from the Board to have a grant of it. They desire as Speedy an answer as you can being going on with the Building an will want the Wood as soon as possible.

	I Reced. the 1st of this Month a Proposall from Mattw. Cousen & Robt. Race of Teasdale head, to take a Tack Note for one year, having a right to a Lease for 21 Years of one Moiety of a Branch on String of the Vein Called Clargillh.d, and Pay one fifth Duty, Subject to all usuall Covenants in Leases of Lead Mines in Alston Moore; wch please to Lay before the Board.
