Letter – Nicholas Walton to William Corbett – 6 Jan 1738

	We received Yours of the 28th December last with the Boards Minutes of that Date, whereby we observe the Board have been pleased to give Orders that our Accot. sho’d be made out to the 31st December last, in Obedience to which you may be well assured It shall be done to that time as Speedily as possible.

	We are Glad the Severall papers we sent came safe to your hands, and hope you have received from Colonel Liddell the Rental and particulars of the Valuation of all the woods on the Derwntwater estate.

	We beg leave to represent to you the Case of James Williamson the late Miller of Scremerston Mills who stands in Arrear to the Hospital in the late receivers time £14:14:0 and since w have been Concernd £25 –0-0 to Mayday last. (The case is this) The poor man was farmer of the Mills for many Years, Built a Wind Mill at his own expence which not being able to keep in repair was blown down and renderd of no use to him and the other Mill having become ruinous and in bad repair he expended in the Years 173 and 1734 in the repaire thereof £12 - 9 – 6 which sum he begs may be Allowed him by the Directors, As to the fact of these repairs being done we have wrote to Mr Watson to Attest the same, and had his Answer which we send you Inclosd with the Accot. of the particulars of the said £12 : 9 : 6 [see Watson to Walton, 14 Dec 1737]

	This poor fellow being a Mill Wright by Trade, we have Employd him in the late repairs of the Mill and other Repairs at Scremerston and there is Due to him upon that Accot. near £22 – 0 – 0  which sum he is Willing to Allow in part of his Debt as he is to allow the said £12 – 9 – 6 if the Directors are pleased to Order It to be Accounted in that way he is no way Capable of paying the Old Arrear but by Allowing him the Old repairs we think the Directors sho’d Comply therewith, but that we Submitt to their Direction.
