Dear Sir

	I have endeavoured to calculate the Sums you gave me Yesterday as the Price Sir Thomas Blackett asks for the Content & Parkhead Farms to find out the advance Rent set upon each Farm which I apprehend to be £16 a Year upon the former more than the Under Tenant pays & I don’t know how much upon the latter and the Sum asked exceeds 35 Years purchase upon each.

	This conveys to me a full Determination in Sir Thos Blackett that he has no Intention to part with either; but to give a further Trial to this Intention I beg to trouble you to write again to Him that in Justice to his Credit as well as my own that if he is willing to oblige me with the Content Farm or to make the Content Farm a Condition to dispose of the other that I am willing to leave the Price to any indifferent Person of Character in this Country that he shall be pleased to Name.  No Body can be a better Judge of Land in this Neighbourhood than your Brothers Steward Mr Bates with whom you know I have no Connection but I hit upon him as a Man of Character who I hope would rather make the Turn of the Scale in Sir Thomas favour but I leave the Nomination intirely to your [:struck out] himself as also to fix the Time for the Payment of the Money.  I flatter myself no Proposition can be more equitable on my part and his Acceptance of it will very much oblige etc                T Clavering
