Messrs Finlay Hodgson & Co London June 1st 1833 Dear Sirs I have duly rec[eive]d your letters of the 29th & 30th Ulto. Your sale of Silver is very satisfactory. For our last sent to Messrs Storr & Mortimer we receive 5/3 1/4 per Oz. so that you have in your sale an advantage in price & prompt payment. I now hand you Mr Pattinsons Report it is I think very clear & satisfactory. You will observe he makes no mention of his new process & this when in full operation will increase our quantity of Common Lead & decrease in proportion our quantity of Ord Refined. I am also glad to find that our present Mill Establishments are sufficient to Smelt all the Ore we raise which will save any outlay at present. I am aware that many improvements at the mills may be effected & must be gradually progressing but outlay must be avoided as much as possible. Mr Pattinson I know is very anxious to extend the Rookhope Mill & reduce the Dukesfield, but until we have got settled with the Bishop & see the Newcastle & Carlisle & Stanhope Railway in operation nothing can be determined upon. I see clearly Messrs Maltby & Cos scheme in which I hope they will fail. Mr Donkin has paid me £133.6.6 to your credit which sum you will please to repay yourself out of the first Money you receive on Mr Beaumonts A/c I thought it best to say as little as possible to Mr Key about the 300 frs of Common Lead sent last week, leaving him to report upon its quality. I am Sir BJ
