The Revd Mr Hardinge Newcastle 13th Sept 1798 Stanhope Durham Sir I am sorry that I was away from home when you did me the favor to call on me. I wished to have had some conversation with you respecting the proposed Division of the Common & Stinted Pastures in Weardale; I am apprehensive that it may be injurious to Mr Beaumont’s interest in those parts, for if care be not taken in the Bill that a reservation be made of the free & uninterrupted enjoyment of all the rights etc that the Lessee has hitherto exercised under the Lord Bishop of Durham’s lease, it will be very prejudicial to Mr Beaumont, as well as to the concern at large in the future working of those Mines. On the 11th Ins a Bill on London for £450 was remitted to Messrs Gosling on your Account being for one half Year’s Composition of your Tithe Ore due 11 July last _ the illness & death of my Clerk has been the cause of this delay which I hope that you will excuse I am Sir etc J.E.B
