Letters – John Erasmus Blackett to Henry Wilson – 20 Dec 1798

Dr Sir	As my letter of the 11th Inst was in a great measure an answer to yours of the 13th I postponed answering it;  I have since received your Lre of the 15th Inst acknowledging the Receipt of a Bill for £84-15-6 being in full the Bal: of a half Year’s Interest of £4000 due 17th Augt last;  I observe what you say as to the Date of the Bill which certainly was far from being objectionable.  Inclosed I send you Surtees Burdon & Cos Bill on Barclays & Co dated the 19th Inst at 14 Days date for £1200 which is as short a date as can possibly be expected for so large a Sum, & that with some inconvenience for the sake of accomodating the young Gentlemen, which you must be sensible of, considering the sudden call for this Money;  As to charging Discount I never heard of it being done, unless legal & customary notice has been given for such payment, & rather than submit to a charge of the nature, I shall be ready (on the part of Col Beaumont) to pay in the remaining Sum of £2800 in August next on the proper discharge being given; of which you will be pleased to advise me.  I desire that you will please to acknowledge the receipt of this Bill by the first Post & likewise to endorse the Receipt of the Sum of £1200 on the back of the Deed.
