Mr John Bell Hexham Abbey Newcastle 18th Decr 1797 Dr Sir In consequence of a Lre which I received from Mr Beaumont by the last post. I have wrote to Mr Newton, a Copy of which you have annexed; its probable that this notice will occasion Mr Stephenson to call on me, & as soon as a time is appointed for him & Mr Ebdon to meet at the Abbey, for the purpose of settling the business with you, you shall be informed of the same. As Smith will be no longer employed by Mr Newton, & a Foreman will be wanted to carry on, & compleat the joiner Work, I do not see that Mr Beaumont can have a more proper person than Smith who appears to be very capable of conducting the same & is acquainted with it; Mr Beaumont thinks that his being continued may induce Mr Newton to think that he is still employed under him; which matter I shall explain to Mr Newton in case Mr Beaumont should not have any further objection. I am etc J.E.B Mr William Newton Newcastle 18th Decr 1797 Mr Beaumont having given Directions that the Carpenters and joiners work carried on by you for & at Hexham Abbey shall be no longer continued you will take notice Accordingly that after saturday the 23d ins Thos R Beaumont will no longer be answerable to you or your Workmen for any Work done on Account of the same I am for Thos R Beaumont Esqr Yours etc J.E.B
