I am favoured with your letter of the 9th Inst enclosing a letter from Mr Bell the Contents of which I have considered & am of opinion that it will be adviseable to accept of the Arrears of the Quit rent viz £105 & for the future the Annual payment of £5 per Ann from Mr Errington, but as it is a matter of some consequence, I have desired Mr Bell to state the case to Mr Williamson for his opinion, as he will be at Hexham on Monday next to hold the Courts.
I have wrote to Mr H Errington in answer to his letter respecting the Collieries agreeable to your determination.
I wrote to Mr Emerson Senr respecting the application made to you by Sir Hedworth Williamson inclosed I send you a Copy of his answer from which it appears that it will not be adviseable for you to comply with his request, but I shall meet the Lead Stewards at Hexham on the 12th Novr when I shall lay the Plan before them & take their opinion more fully on the Matter of which I shall acquaint you _ Have you come to any determination as to Purchasing the Land tax on your Estates etc in this Country? If you have please to inform me? at foot is the Rate of Land tax paid at present for the Lands etc at the Mines & Mills with Winlaton, Mr Bell will inform you of that of Hexham etc.
