Colonel Beaumont Newcastle March 12/99 MP Portman square London D[ea]r Sir I am favoured with your letter of the 9th Inst. by which I observe that Mr. Fleming has accepted of your offer of the Curacy of Hexham, I am a stranger to the forms etc of those appointments but I have been with Mr Heron who has promised to send me a Copy of the appointment of the late Mr. Busby; What could be the motive of Mr. Bell for throwing any difficulties in the way to Mr. Flemings appointment to the school, I am really at a loss to guess, but this I am certain of, the Town & Neighbourhood will have no Cause to thank him. What you mention respecting the Clerk is quite new to me, & from the information that you had from the Bishop I should imagine that Mr. Bell has been misinformed, & that no such Nomination or Application has been made by Mr. Busby. I am much at a loss as to the Income Tax, not having received either the Act, nor that for giving a further time for the making out, & the delivery of the State of the Income arising from your Mines, nor have I been informed by you of the Place where you incline to be assessed, which by the Act I am informed is optionable, it will be a most difficult & perplexing matter to settle. I am etc J E B When Mr. Heron sends me the Appointment for the Curacy it shall be sent you
