Thomas Rd. Beaumont Esq. Newcastle 14th August 1799 Bretton Wakefd. Yorkshire D[ea]r Sir I wrote to you the 9th Inst. to which I refer you. I made Mr Hardinge an offer of £1200 P. Ann. as a Composition for his Tithe Ore of Weardale Leadmines which Sum he refused accepting of, & he wrote me that an Agent of a Mining Company in that Neighbourhood had made him offers more advantageous to him than the terms that he had proposed to me, I had no doubt that such offers had been made to him, & therefore thought it adviseable to conclude the Agreement with Mr. Hardinge on his own terms Viz. Fifteen Hundred Pounds P. Ann. I wrote to him to that purpose & have had his answer; I now enclose you the Agreements which when you have Executed you will be pleased to return to me that they may be forwarded to Mr. Hardinge for his Signature. Your Quantity of Lead will fall considerably short this year, the advanced Price may I hope make some little amends; I do not expect to make a Sale ‘till next Month (not having above 13000 ps. of Lead at Blaydon at present, exclusive of about 4000 ps. of Refineable Lead) when I hope to obtain £19 P. Fr. I am with best respects etc J. E. B.
