Dear Sir     Since my Letter to you 11th inst I have yours of the same Date & as Mess. Surtees & Co. have not made the Purchase in the Stocks, I think that the Mode you propose of of sending a Power of Attorney to your Bankers Mess. Barclays & Co. to sell out your Stock or to transfer it, will be the best, I did not know that you had changed your Bankers, Against the Time that your Steward Mr Tweedale has made out an Account of your Land Tax in Yorkshire & procured a Certificate, I hope to send you that for Weardale, in the Account that Mr Emerson formerly sent me, he omitted to insert the Land Tax he pays for those Mines charged in the Mine Accounts which has paid for near 30 years.

I have been fortunate in making a Purchase of 9 Lasts about 700 Bushels of foreign Rye at £28 P[er] Last for your Workmen, the Price is advancing & I have been offered £40 for the purchase   Very large Orders have been sent to the Eastern Ports for both Wheat & Rye but it is feared that a Stop will be put to the Exportation from thence  Indeed a Scarcity of Grain is much to be apprehended on which its to be hoped that Government will put an immediate Stop to the Distilleries in this Country.
