T R Beaumont Esqr Newcastle 27th Jany 1796 M.P. Portman square London Dear Sir I wrote to you the 4th & 12th inst to which I have not rec[eive]d any Answer & as I shall be at Hexham on the 8th Feby to meet the Lead Stewards, it will be necessary that I should know what resolution you come to respecting Mr Carr etc. I hope that you & Mrs Beaumont were pleased with the late Sale of Lead; Lord Carlisle’s Agent has within these few days sold 3,400 p[iece]s of his Lead at £19 per Fdr. The present very wett weather will be much against your Lead being got down to markett. I understand that upwards of £50,000 is already subscribed towards the Canal on the North Side the Tyne; Mr Jessop as well as an Agent of the Duke of Bridgewater (who has taken a View of the Country) gives the North side greatly the preference in point of Expence etc. Dodd the Proprietor of that on the South side, Certainly is very unequal to an undertakg of the kind; A Canal on that side would certainly be of more advantage to your Lead Concern, as much the greater part of your Lead can derive no advantage from a Canal on the North Side the Tyne; I yesterday had some conversant[io]n with the Duke of Northd’s Agent Mr Forster on the subject; the Duke is circumstanced with respect to his Coal, similar to you with your Lead, but Mr Forster has his Graces directions to addopt that line that may be judged by persons of Science, & the Gentn etc of the Country to be most practicable & of public benifit to the Country etc in general. I have not yet attended any of the meetgs not knowing what part you would take in the business, you will therefore please to inform me in what manner I must Act. I shall be glad to hear that Mrs Beaumont & your little Daughter is doing well; Mrs Trevelyan on Sundy Morn[in]g made her Husband a like present, & they are both in a good way. My Daughter unites with me in Comps to Mrs Bt & yourself I am Dear Sir Yours etc J.E.B
