Colonel Beaumont Newcastle 27th Novr 1799 Bretton Hall Barnsley Yorkshire Dear Sir I had a Letter from Mr Bell inclosing Copy of Mr Wilson’s Letter to him, inclosed you have a Copy of my Answer to Mr Bell. The Sales of Lead that I made in Augt & Septr was very fortunate for there has been little or no Demand since that Time; Refined Lead has been offered at a Reduced Price and refused; there are still 2,000 Pieces of Common Lead wanting at Blaydon to compleat the Quantity sold, which I hope may be got down in the Course of the next Month so that it will not be in my Power to make another Sale to the London Buyers before Feby or March at the soonest. The Subscription that you entered into towards furnishing a Part of the Hexham Volunteer Infantry and the Band of Musick with Cloathing etc having fallen short Major Surtees called on me a few days since with the Paper of the 2nd Subscription and seeing that Mr Clarke and several others had subscribed a like Sum as their former Subscription I took the Liberty of doing the same for you and set down your Name for ten Guineas, which I hope you will approve of. I intend meeting the Lead Stewards at Hexham with Subsistence Money for the Workmen on Monday the 9th Decer. next, should you have any Commands etc to that Place you will be pleased to acquaint me. I am etc J. E. B.
