Dr Sir	

      I am favoured with your Lre of the 4th Inst & I observe what you say respecting the Purchasing of your Land tax in this Country as well as that in Yorkshire; People are much divided in opinion as to the eligibility of the measure & I do not find that many are inclined to purchase in this Country, neither the Duke of Northumberland or Lord Tankerville do, I have not heard whether the Duke of Portland & Lord Carlisle intend purchasing I apprehend that it will be very difficult at this time either to borrow Money for the purpose, or to prevail on any to lend Stock;

	I acquainted you in my last that owing to our late Success in the Meditterranean & East Sea the demand for Lead has increased & of course the price advanced  I have refused £16-10 for 10,000 Ps to be delivered in the Spring & I have offered 5000 Ps at £17 per For which I expect will be accepted of;  With prospect of the trade during the course of the next year, I shall direct the Lead Stewards at our Meeting at Hexham on the 12th Inst to push forward the Workings etc.  We did not forget little Wentworth’s Birth Day yesterday & I sincerely wish him many happy returns of it.
