To Sir W[alte]r Blackett Bt. MP. London Newcastle 22 June 1756 Hon Sir Thos.Armstrong Steward at Coalcleugh died on Sunday last, wch I think no great loss to you; but where to meet with a proper p[er]son to succeed him, I do not yet know, unless Mr Jno.Harrison who lives near the place, is an able Miner & has an estate of ab[ou]t £40 a yr, will accept the office; wch I doubt he will not, as he is a relation of R[ober]t Armstrong's, who I apprehend will sollicit you to let him return to Coalcleugh: Mr Caleb Hunter is now here & gives Mr Harrison a very good Character; & therefore I wish you co[ul]d engage him if you have no other p[er]son in view. he is about 50 yrs of age. We have a great many horses enterd for this week, & yesterday there were 4 heats for the Kings Plate; wch was won by one Scurfield a farmer near Hartlepool. I am etc JR
