Letters – Nicholas Walton to John Ibbetson – 17 Jun 1764

Sir,                                    Private                                  Ravensworth Castle June 17th 1764



      We have made enquiry whether Mr Cook can have 10 Chaldrons of Coals London Measure ship[p]ed for him at Newcastle and find there will be some difficulty in getting the coals sent in that manner, but as we generaly exceed the quantity ordered by the Directors a little, we will take notice to you in a private letter when we send the last loading that Mr Cook is to have ten Chaldrons out of the bulk which he will to pay for upon the average of the ships making out when she comes to Greenwich. This we are of opinion there cannot be the least objection to and in case you and Mr Cook approve of it we will take care to send him the coals as above.

      Pray be so obliging as let us hear from you as soon as possible after the General Court is held as the Confirmation of a Tenant to Beamwham Farm is particularly wanted as well as the others. We are  Sir Your most Obed[ient] Servants

P.S. On looking again into your Letter concern[in]g Mr Cooks Coals we observe you only say 10 chaldrons, by which you may mean Newcastle Chaldrons of this you will be so good as inform us in your next [letter].

The Newcastle Chaldron is almost double the quantity of that of London. A ship will be loaden for Greenwich about Wednesday first.

When we have a Large Request of this kind wou[l]d it not save the postage to write On His Majestys Service.
