The Honble The Govr & Compy Nenthead October 29th 1814 Sirs I have made the Quarterly Views of the Companys Mines under my direction – on the 28th & 29th of last Month. I lett the Sundry Bargains, of which a list annexed. Rampgill Mine is much poorer than for some time past, the leading Forehead in the late successfull Vein having failed, and I am afraid will not revive again. There is a good deal of Ore raised still at this Mine, but the Workings in the back Ground are fast working out. John Elliott &c are driving a Level upon the Little Limestone to try the Vein in the upper Stratums. Robt Irwin &c are driving the deep Horse Level. Thos Hewitson &c are driving the Horse Level in the failing Vein, with an expectation of the Vein recovering and raising Ore again. Emanuel Nattress &c are rising and Abraham Graham &c are sinking from the surface to meet them, for producing Air in the Mine and proving the Vein in the Sundry Stratums which are between Scaleburnmoss is poor, but will be preserved from loss in future. Thos Humble &c are driving the Horse Level. SmallCleugh Mine is doing well. The leading Bargains in the List are Raising Ore very well in the Flatts, of the purest quality – the latter part of the Bargains are picking and Raise a small proportion of the Ore. John Hind &c are cutting a cross to the Flatts and will soon raise Ore. Willis Slack &c are driving the deep Level as a drain. Thos Stephenson &c are driving the Level above the Flatts, to prepare the Way for Raising Ore. Jacob Blaylock &c are sinking into the Flatts & will shortly Raise Ore Broombery & Gudhamgillmoss is poor, but having erected a small Crushing Machine at the Mouth of the Level, will make the Mine Work to greater advantage in future. John Richardson &c are driving in the Great Limestone, to prove the Vein in fresh Ground At Middlecleugh. Geo: Robinson &c are driving the Horse Level, and will occasionally cut into the Vein in the Great Limestone At Haginshaw [sic] John Hall &c are Repairing the principal Level Middlehope Mine is prosperous, and at present raising a great deal of Ore at favorable prices, and the dead Work upon this Mine is trifling. John Dawson &c are driving the Horse Level Westward in the New String John Armstrong &c are driving an upper Horse Level, and will sink from thence into the Deep Level, & prove the Vein in the upper Stratums, as well as furnish the Mine with fresh Air Wm Brown &c are sinking a sump and will soon Raise Ore Ireshopeburn Mine has no dead Work, and we merely pick the Bones at 50/- p[er] Bing Stanhopeburn Mine is much the same as last Report. Jos Collingwood &c are driving the Horse Level Loveladyshield is under trial Wm Teasdale &c are rising in the Vein, but the appearance is bad. The Garrigill Mines are extremely poor; and several parts are under trial, barely to support the Leases – till the necessary trials are affected. At Tynebottom Jos Wanless &c are driving the Horse Level to try the Flatts, which so far continue poor. Isaac Teasdale &c are driving in the Great Limestone in a Cross Vein, where several fair Running Veins are cut, which probably may raise some Ore, and which trials preserve two or three other Leases James Dickinson &c are sinking into the Flatt in a different Vein, where Ore will be got Browngill Sun Vein is poor Jos. Hall &c are driving the Horse Level Middlecleugh Cross Vein connected with the Lease of Blackashgill is now beginning to raise Ore, and I am persuaded will do well in future. Richd Thomason &c are driving the Horse Level, which prepares the Vein for Raising Ore. Geo : Oliver &c are driving a Level at the opposite end of the Lease, to try and unwater the Vein Blackashgill is under trial and must Remain so for some time to come John Vipond &c are driving the Horse Level to try the Vein occasionally in the Great Limestone – and John Elliott &c are driving an upper Level, to search for Ore in the upper Stratums I have used every exertion in my power in letting these Bargains both for Ore & Dead Work, and trust they will prove successful I am &c &c Thomas Dodd Senr.
