In the Name of God Amen. I Nicholas Walton Clerk Vicar of Alston in the Diocese of Durham do make & ordaine this my last Will & Testament in manner & forme following First I commit my Soul into the Hands of God my Creatour hoping through the Meritts of Christ Jesus my Redeemer to obtain full & free Remission of all my Sins And my body to the earth of which it was made to be bury’d at the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named. And as for those temporal Goods which the Lord hath thought fit to bestow upon me I give & bequeath them as followeth. First I give unto my Son in Law Thomas Bell the sume of One Hundred pounds being the sume or porcion which I promised him when he marryd my Daughter Anne. Item I give unto my Son Nicholas my Tenement of Land at Ayl Towne in the parish of Kirkhaugh to enter upon the Same at & upon the first day of May which shall be in the yeare of our Lord One Thousand Seaven Hundred & Thirty. Item I give unto my Daughter Elizabeth the sume of One Hundred pounds to be payd her as soon as she attaine the age of Twenty Fower Years or at the time of her Marriage whether shall happen first. Item I give unto my Son John & my Daughter Susanna my Tenem[en]t of Land at Nest in the Chappelry of Garragill to enter upon the Same as soon as my said Son John shall attaine the Age of Twenty Fower yeares, or in Case my said Son John shall think fit to pay his said Sister Susanna the sume of One Hundred pounds that upon payment thereof he shall have & enjoy the said Tenem[en]t of Land at Nest. Item I give unto my Son William only the Sume of Five Shillings having already given him what I thought fit. Item I give unto my Wife Susanna my Tenem[en]t of Land at Blagill in the parish of Alston and all other my Goods & Chattells whatsoever upon Condit[i]on that she carefully maintain & Educate my Three youngest Children, Jane Mary & Christopher & pay my debts Legacies & funeral Expences and upon this further trust and Confidence that at the time of her death or when & as she shall think it convenient She give such porc[i]ons or Legacys to my Said Three youngest Children as her Circumstance shall allow at. And I do hereby give unto my Said Wife full power & Authority to sell or Mortgage the said tenem[en]t of Lands at Blagill for the paym[en]t of my debts or for raising porc[i]ons for my said Three Youngest Children. And I do hereby appoint and desire my Uncle Henry Stephenson of Croslands my Brother Christopher Walton of Lovelady Shield & my Brother Thomas Lee of Alston-house to assist my Wife in the due performance & Execution of this my last Will. And my Will further is that in case my said Wife shall depart this Life without disposing the Reversion of my Effects to my said three youngest Children by Will or otherwise that then such Reversion as she shall have shall descend and become due to my said Three youngest Children my 2 Daughters Jane and Mary to have one Equal half part And my Son Christopher the other half part thereof. And in Case any of these Three youngest Children dy before they attain the Age of Twenty one Years then my Will is that their intended shares or porcions shall descend and fall due to my 2 Sons Nicholas and John to be divided Equally betwixt them. Item I give unto my Grand Child Thomas Bell one Guinea. And I do hereby make my Wife Susanna full & Sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament revoking all other Wills by me at any time heretofore made.
